Find out how to perform Umrah in 2014?

The ‘Umrah

Umrah in RamadanTo be ritually pure for ‘Umrah, a man should undress and bathe, and perfume his head and beard with the best oil. Bathing for Ihram is Sunnah (habit) for both men and women, however, only the pilgrim who isn’t menstruating or experiencing post natal bleeding prays the obligatory prayer, if it is time. Otherwise, he makes his intention by praying the two Sunnah Rak’ah which are made each time Wudu’ is performed.

On finishing the prayer, a man loudly, and a woman such that only one beside her may hear it, must say the Talbiyah – “Here I am for ‘Umrah, here I am, Oh Allah, here I am. Here I am. You have no partner. Here I am. Surely all praise, grace and dominion is yours, and you have no partner.”

From putting on his Ihram till he starts Tawaf, one should say the Talbiyah during ‘Umrah.
While entering the Holy Mosque, a pilgrim has to place his right foot forward and say, “In the name of Allah, may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. Oh Allah, forgive me my sins and open to me the doors of Your mercy. I seek refuge in Allah the Almighty and in His Eminent Face and in His Eternal Dominion from the accursed Satan.”

He then has to touch the Black Stone with his right hand and kiss it while saying, “In the name of Allah, Allah is the greatest. Oh, Allah, with faith in you, belief in Your book, loyalty to you, compliance to the way of your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)”. If that isn’t possible, the pilgrim should face the Black Stone and point to it and say the same. Each time on passingthe Black Stone one should say, “Allah is the Greatest.”

While walking to the Ar-Rukn Al-Yamani, a pilgrim must always stay to the right of the Ka’bah he should touch, but not kiss it, and say: “Our Lord, grant us good in this life and good in the hereafter and save us from the punishment of the Hell fire. Oh Allah, I beg of You for forgiveness and health in this life and in the Hereafter.”

During the remainder of his Tawaf he may say what he pleases of supplications, mentioning Allah, and recitation of Quran. This is because Tawaf, Sa’i, and Stoning the Jamrah have been devised for the purpose of mentioning Allah.

Al-ldhteba’ (placing the middle of one’s Rida’ under his right arm and the ends of it over his left shoulder) must be done from the beginning of Tawaf until the end.Al-Ramal(speeding up one’s pace with small steps)must be done for the frist three circuits, while the last four are to be walked with normal pace.

When one completes seven circuits of Tawaf, he should approach Maqam Ibrahim and recite:
“And take ye the station of Abraham as a place of Prayer.” [Noble Quran 2:125]

He has to pray two short Rak’ah reciting Surah Al-Kafirun [Noble Quran, 109] during the first andSurah Al-lkhlas [Noble Quran, 112] during the second. After it, he should touch the black stone, and go to the Mas’a and recite, “Verily As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the shrines of Allah.”[Noble Quran 2:158] on nearing As-Safa.

A pilgrim should then face the Ka’bah and raise his hands, praises Allah and makes any supplications he chooses. The Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed thus: “There is no Deity but Allah alone,” three times, supplicating in between.

In completion of Sa’i one should shave his head. In case of a woman, or when Hajj is too close for the hair to grow back, one can clip his hair to shave it off during Hajj.

That completes ‘Umrah, and one can then dress and act as one normally might.
